YouTube As a Lonely Space, by Zoe Brunn

The nature of YouTube seems to be connective: you can find communities and join them, exchange thoughts with the comment function, and even send a message to another YouTube user for more direct communication. However, social activity that takes place on YouTube does not translate into the real world; YouTube community stays in a digital space.

Dr. Strangelove points out that we're living in a post-television period where everyone is able to watch on his or her own screen. The YouTube audience is a digital one and a fragmented one.

YouTube is a lonely space.
