Origins of this content
This texteo sits on the Fred Fan Rant hidden YouTour so as to be simultaneously "published" in a special issue on fan/remix video at Transformative Works and Culture. It is extracted and refined from a talk presented at the UCSD symposium, Youth Media, Sensory Ability and Visual Culture, 2010.
Contextualization
According to YouTube: "A subscription notifies a user when new videos are added to a channel or when another user takes one of several actions on YouTube, such as uploading a video, rating a video, or commenting on a video."

"YouTube crossed the 1 billion subscriptions mark today and if some of those aren't yours—you're missing out." [cit]

Subscribe to this Failure

Videos about Fred's failure, demise, or death are another counter-intuitive sub-genre of Fred fan videos. UNSUBSCRIBING FRED!!!!!? (with its over 65,000 views) builds upon the logic of failure, I don't care, and the counter-logic of unsubscribing subscriptions already evidenced in our Fred fan video lexicon: "Hey guys. I thought I should make this video because it is going to be an EPIC FAILURE." Drum roll. Making a video to fail (that succeeds) plays within the reverse logic which Fred skillfully introduces and which is cemented by DrummerGuy who is making this video to ask people to unsubscribe even though, "he doesn't care about this: I couldn't care less. I'm not subscribed."
