This video was made for a final
research project that the class decided to develop in groups. Research had to occur about and on YouTube. This project was one of several videos created by the Censorship on YouTube group and posted by
jessw11. The assignment included making several videos including a tour of their sources and a final video that presented their research findings. In 2007,
dallen1eleven posted his group's
research project on this issue as well.
Censorship on YouTube has been a major concern for its users, scholars, and journalists. The multiple issues raised include YouTube being censored by the governments of specific
countries, and YouTube censoring
user content, sometimes, although not always in the name of copyright infringement, including a longstanding billion dollar legal battle with
Viacom.
YouTomb "is a research project by MIT Free Culture that tracks videos taken down from YouTube for alleged copyright violation. More specifically, YouTomb continually monitors the most popular videos on YouTube for copyright-related takedowns."
