Perfect Parody Production, by Pete Siegel

For as long as viral video has been around on YouTube (I know, not very long), the parody video has thrived.

Towards the beginning of the viral video explosion, parodies were often poorly made user content, often with bad video quality. However, as viral video becomes, well, more viral, so does the YouTube parody video.

Along with this increase in popularity of parodies on YouTube comes a newer, higher quality, and more professionally created parody. What was once often a way for the user to outdo the corporate on YouTube has now been put in the hands of the corporate itself.

Instead of seeing lo-fi parodies with unknown users as actors, now we begin to see celebrities and professional actors taking on the YouTube parody. The parody is yet another aspect of YouTube that has been taken from the user and dominated by the corporate.
